Writing a Book? Purpose, Mission, and Vision!
December 11, 2024It’s January. Are You Going to Write Your Book This Year?

Why do you want to write a book?
You may be writing a book because people told you that you should.
(Why do they feel that way?)
You may feel a need to record your story, so you don’t forget the details.
(Why do you feel that way?)
You may think that your story may help others.
(Why do you want to help? What compels you?)
These are some common answers that writers often give.
But these are surface level reasons.
As writers, we want to dig deeper to find our true meaning and purpose.
In doing so, we may realize that our reason is something more meaningful and purposeful than just helping others.
It’s more about discovering our true meaning and purpose.
Many times, through the act of writing (especially with pen and paper), we become enlightened through unforeseen discoveries, which may cause our message to shift.
Diving into our subconscious mind may also feel unpleasant or even scary as we relive memories and emotions and experiences, even if we are not planning on writing about them.
As writers, it is nearly impossible to create stories that do not originate from within us, because we cannot disconnect from ourselves, our path, meaning, and purpose.
Discovering ourselves and our messages will separate our story from the rest because of our unique perspectives, experiences, emotions, and knowledge.
So, how do we begin? We put the act of writing first and let the heart spill out onto the page by writing, journaling, leaving our worries, fears, and judgements behind as best as we can, so we can be inspiring, not only to others but also to ourselves.
