First of all, authentic writing comes from the human spirit, which is now supposedly being replaced in some people’s eyes by a machine. And not a very good machine at that. This machine writes upon command, often regurgitated prose that is highly lacking in meaning or flavor.
But many do not care about that.
They love fads, new inventions. They want things bigger, faster, and supposedly better.
Those of us who were born before the technological age know that this exponential influx of technology on our lives did not make us better. It just added more confusion and annoyances such as us living in chains in a virtual world instead of truly experiencing our physical and spiritual lives.
And, yet, despite technology, we still experience the same problems, the same feelings, the same needs and wants.
All humans want to believe in something. They want hope. They crave loving relationships. They want substance and require depth. If they do not wish to have any of those, or feel they are nonexistent or out of reach, then they opt for bigger, supposedly better, faster, ways to replace it with more money. But, for what?
Now that have been sadly plunged into the tumultuous sea of AI, especially ChatGPT (though we were never asked to be. It was just an assumption that was not on point), there are still people that wish to be aspiring authors, young and old, but they are quickly sinking.
This “machines do it better” fad and mentality especially affect the younger generation. Its presence makes them feel less confident in their ideas and creative abilities and makes them wonder if their desire to play with words on the page is foolishness. Is wanting to tap into their innate creative consciousness even relevant today? This segment of the population requires validation, or they will stop writing.
Is it still worth it to write?
The answer is yes! For those aspiring authors who doubt their abilities, I say, do not despair. Keep your dream of self-discovery and creativity alive with words flowing from your spirit onto the page, and do not let any corporate entity or machine app intimidate you and make you feel less of a writer. Your spirit cannot be quelled by a mere machine, no matter how many words it can regurgitate in a minute. For stories come from the human heart and spirit, both of which AI will never have. Perhaps one day it may want it, if it becomes cognizant of its drab abilities, but it never will. Nothing can replace the human spirit.
So, keep writing even when it feels difficult.
If you are lacking in ideas or hit a wall, keep writing.
Stuck somewhere in between? Keep writing.
Writing is the cure-all for any kind of block you may experience, physical, mental, spiritual, or emotional. Just keep writing!
The world needs to read your unique ideas. Not more packaged prose!
